Backup Wordpress Website

Performing Backup is a VERY important step. Allow us to share with you three methods that you might find useful for the rainy days. 


cPanel phpMyAdmin


Steps for Database backup

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account. 

Step 2: Go to Files section > File Manager. Click on public_html on the left panel. 



Step 3: Locate wp-config.php file within public_html directory. Right click wp-config.php file and click View. Note down the name beside 'DB_NAME' and return to cPanel dashboard. 



Step 4: Go to Databases section. Click phpMyAdmin. 

Step 5: On the left panel, locate the name noted down from public_html. Click on the database and click on Export tab. 

Step 6: Under Export Method, change to Custom option. Scroll down to Object creation options and tick Add DROP TABLE option. Scroll to the bottom of the page and Click Go. 



Step 7: MySQL database dump (backup) automatically download to the computer. You can then proceed to keep this .sql file. 


Steps for Site Files backup

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account. 

Step 2: Go to Files section > File Manager. Click on public_html on the left panel. Locate and right click on wp-content directory. Click Compress and the directory will be compressed to a downloadable zip file. 



Step 3: Tick Zip Archive under Compression type and Click Compress File (s) button at the bottom. 



Step 4: wp-content zip file is downloaded to public_html directory. Right click and click on Download. 


cPanel Softaculous


Step 1: Log in to cPanel account. Locate Softaculous Apps Installer under Software section.

Step 2: Locate and click All Installations (the archive box icon).


Step 3: The list of sites installed is shown on the page. To the right of the site that you would like to edit, click the Backup icon. 



Step 4: Under Backup operation, you may select your required options and click Backup Installation. The backup progress will indicate whether backup is successfully created. Once done, click to Return to Overview. 


*Schedule Automated Backups, return to All Installations page Locate the site that you would like to set up automated backups and click on the Pencil icon on the right. Scroll down and go through the options available. You are able to select some of the options such as automated backups (frequency of backup) and optional selection for files and folders etc.



 

Once all done, scroll towards the bottom of the page and click Save Installation Details. 



Filezilla (can refer to https://support.exabytes.com.my/en/support/solutions/articles/14000028302-how-to-access-ftp-via-filezilla )


Step 1: Log in to Filezilla. Go to File > Site Manager > New Site.
Enter the following information.
Host/domain, username and password, port (21), protocol (FTP),encryption (Use Explicit FTP over TLS if available), logon type (Normal)



Step 2: Once you remote into your server, you will be able to download files from public_html > wp-content. 

Step 3: For database, go to Databases in WordPress Dashboard. Click on Tools > Export > Select All Content. The download will start when you click Download Export File. 


Step 4: Navigate to Filezilla window. Right click on the zip file from the export dump and click Download in Filezilla to download to computer.
